Who we are.
In 1932 a great and determined woman was stripped of her name on her own daughter's birth certificate. They gave her the alias: Jean Brown. She was not the first person to have been denied their identity, silenced or held back because of the existing power structures. And in 2025, we know she was not the last. The Jean Brown Foundation exists because of her and to support and amplify the voices of all those who have had their identities denied or who have had to stay silent.
What we do.
We give organisations a voice in telling us what support they need.Whether it's training, services, connections, funding, or something else, we're here to listen first and act second. And if you're not quite sure, we're big believers in creative problem solving. So we can listen first and then work with you to come up with some options that feel right.
Get in touch.
If you want our support, want to add your support, or want to chat about how you can get involved, we'd love to hear from you.
Always was. Always will be.
We are based in Naarm (Melbourne) across the lands of the Wurundjeri Woiworung and Boonwurrung people. In the spirit of reconciliation and with hope for a future that centres and hears the voice of First Nations' Peoples, we wholly and respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country throughout the continent of Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. As the oldest continuing culture on earth, Australia's First Peoples have been truth telling and sharing their stories across these lands for millennia. We pay our deepest respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
